Automation and insights

As far as automation goes, we are not high frequency traders. We don’t have a magic technical wand to place the trades for you. We are not a trading platform where you buy and sell stock. That’s not the ‘end’ we apply to our automation.

Maybe in the future we will build an API between Bounce and your trading platform. Until then the automation is all about creating a list of stocks to trade i.e. the ‘front’ end.

Automation for us was always about doing the tasks that we do not have the time to do ourselves. Finding stocks to trade takes a huge amount of time.

Most retail traders work off intuition (which isn’t a bad thing by the way). When you have time it’s great and exciting. You go from gut feeling about a stock or sector, to researching it, validating its potential, placing a trade and if all goes to plan, profit.

Doing this consistently is the hard part, especially when you have a full-time job.

Therefore, automation is key for us. We want to be able to be as passive as possible.

We had read all the articles and watched the YouTube videos about passive trading which in effect required us to pass over a monthly amount for someone else to trade. That wasn’t for us.

We still want it to be us making the decisions, just aided by a tool that allows certain aspects of analysis to be automated in the background.

Insights as well as algorithms

The good news is data and insights into the market is everywhere. The bad news is it’s mixed in with noise and opinion which is either biased or inaccurate.

When researching a stock, we wanted to have fundamental statistics to hand. So, we built a dashboard that we could collate and display all the things which we found insightful. Which sectors were hot, which were not. It allowed us to visualise a macro view of the market.

We wanted to be able to pull trending news articles of stock market instruments and analyse quickly if they were positive or negative. This gave us a quick insight into how the media perceived a company.

The dashboard forms the basis of Bounce. Pulling together all the insights we found useful, all in one place. This is something we want all retail traders to have. The very least we should have is clear and accurate data to help us see the wood from the trees.

It is and will continue to be free of charge.
